The Church of the Dormition is one of the oldest in town. It was built by craftsmen of the town brotherhood in 1581-1584 and consecrated in 1583 on the feast of the Dormition. The initiators were furrier Mykola Drachuk and shoemaker Havrylo Zhuravel. The church was repeatedly destroyed in Turkish and Tatar raids but was rebuilt each time. In Soviet times it stood empty, the community restored it in the 1980s, and after independence it was fully renovated. The church and its bell tower are architectural monuments of national significance. Since 2018 the parish belongs to the OCU. Its modest classical architecture with a dome conveys the spirit of old Chortkiv.
